The Jive Cape Town Funny Festival is a mainstay in Cape Town’s collective consciousness as one of the oldest and most beloved comedy productions in South Africa.
What many don’t know is that this Festival and its unique format started as a dream some three decades ago, when Festival Director Eddy Cassar had a vision to create and host a unique comedy show in Cape Town that saw local established and emerging talent share a stage with international performers.
The past quarter-century has seen over 100 performers come across the Funny Festival stage – many of them returning regularly – and eagerly – as staunch supporters of the Funny Festival format. Through this event, audiences have been introduced to young talent before they made it big in the comedy industry, exposed to South African comedy legends, and given the unique opportunity to see international greats in action.
In celebration of the Jive Cape Town Funny Festival’s 25th anniversary this year, audiences will have the chance to take a trip down memory lane through a special display in the Baxter Theatre foyer. Here’s a sneak preview of what you can expect…
